5 Ways to Find Your Inner Peace: The Secret to Find Peace of Mind

silhouette of person against a sunset with open arms, 5 Ways to Find Your Inner Peace: The Secret to Find Peace of Mind,

As we go through life, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of our daily routines. From juggling work, family, and social obligations, to navigating our own personal struggles and challenges, it can feel like there’s never enough time to stop and catch our breath.

That’s why it’s so important to take a step back and prioritize our mental health and wellbeing. In this post, we’ll explore some of the key ways you can cultivate inner peace, find peace of mind and how doing so can ultimately lead to a happier, more fulfilling life.

1. Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness is all about learning to be present in the moment, and letting go of worries and distractions that can often weigh us down. By taking a few minutes each day to focus on your breath, or simply observe the world around you, you can start to develop a deeper sense of calm and clarity.

To get started with mindfulness, try setting aside just 5-10 minutes each day for a dedicated practice. You might choose to sit quietly and focus on your breath, or use a guided meditation app like Insight Timer to help you ease into the practice. I have some guided meditations in the Insight Timer library you can listen to at any time.

It’s important to note here, the aim of mindfulness isn’t to feel instantly happier, in fact it may be challenging, and isn’t recommended if you are in very trauma-triggered state.

Mindfulness is simply to help to anchor you into your body and into the present moment, even if this is uncomfortable – we are often surprised at how much we can tolerate discomfort when we stop resisting it.

Just think about how much planning in the future or fretting over the past can take you out of the present. Mindfulness is a go-to way to settle in your life, with a little compassion and acceptance. It does take practice but is well worth the effort.

2. Cultivate Gratitude

Did you know the way you think, and what you focus on impacts your lived experience?

Gratitude is a powerful tool for promoting inner peace and happiness. By taking time each day to reflect on the things that you’re grateful for, you can shift your mindset away from negative thoughts and toward a more positive, abundant perspective.

“We see the world through the lens of all our experiences; that is a fundamental part of the human condition.”

— Madeleine M. Kunin

Try keeping a gratitude journal, where you jot down a few things each day that you feel thankful for. It could be as simple as a good meal with friends, or a beautiful sunset you witnessed on your evening walk.

You can start with 3-5 things that you are grateful for each day. This is best first things in the morning or in the evening, as a method of reflection and intention setting – choosing thoughts of gratitude, rather than thoughts of a ”have-not” narrative.

Over time, you may find that this practice helps you feel more content and fulfilled in your daily life.

3. Engage in Self-Care

Self-care is all about taking care of yourself, both physically and emotionally. This might mean taking a relaxing bath, going for a walk in nature, or simply spending some time doing something you enjoy.

There can be a lot of assumptions about what self-care looks like but your actual self-care routines may look completely different to someone else’s. Have a think about what rest, joy and nourishment actually looks like to you.

We can often get caught up with other responsibilities and put ourselves at the back of the to-do list, but by doing this we don’t not hold ourselves accountable in caring for ourselves. Imagine if this kind of neglect was towards kids or the elderly – we don’t take too kindly to the neglect of others right?

Within you is a young version waiting for your care and attention. Make some time and space, patiently for this version.

By prioritizing self-care in your life, you can learn to tune in to your own needs and take steps to meet them. This can help you feel more grounded and centered, even in the midst of life’s chaos.

Ultimately, finding inner peace is about learning to cultivate a sense of calm, contentment, and clarity within yourself, even when the world around you feels challenging. By practicing mindfulness, cultivating gratitude, and engaging in self-care, you can take steps toward a happier, more fulfilling life.

4. Spend Time in Nature

Did you nature is naturally regulating to the human body?

Yep. All you need to do it sit somewhere naturally green and/or blue, and let nature do the rest.

Spending time in nature can have numerous benefits for both our physical and mental health. Rather than dwelling on the stresses of everyday life, taking short walks in natural surroundings can aid in living in the moment and achieving a sense of calmness.

In fact, just 20mins of outdoors has shown to have a huge impact on our mental and emotional wellbeing.

It’s not just the fresh air and exercise that help improve our state of mind, but also the sights, sounds, and smells of nature. Studies have shown that spending time in green spaces can lead to decreased anxiety and depression, improved concentration and memory, and a reduction in blood pressure and cortisol levels.

Plus, the time you spend in nature doesn’t have to be long or strenuous – even just a few minutes taking in a scenic view or listening to birdsong can have a positive impact on our wellbeing.

Whether it’s in a city park or a secluded forest trail, incorporating nature into our daily routine is an easy way to support our mental and physical health.

5. Take Responsibility for Your Actions

Taking responsibility for your actions is essential in ensuring your growth and self-improvement. To do so, don’t let stressors or external factors dictate what’s happening in your life. Even if it’s tempting to blame others, take ownership of your choices and their consequences.

Holding onto anger and resentment only leads to self-sabotage, distractions, chaos, and drama in your life. This cycle can be detrimental to your state of mind and well-being. Therefore, it’s crucial to be accountable for your choice to harbour any ill wishes and their outcomes.

Freeing up some overdue baggage will help you self-empower in your personal and professional life. Q: ”As a Therapist, what are the key elements to making and keeping myself consistently happy?”

As a mental health professional, I get asked this question often enough.

In order to find key elements to making and keeping myself consistently happy, I have realized that mental peace is of utmost importance. It enables me to stay calm, composed and happy no matter what’s happening in my life.

I also understand that happiness isn’t something that can happen overnight, nor is it consistent; it’s a subtle state of mind that requires constant effort, observation and tweaks. Similarly, peace isn’t something that I can expect to get external sources only; it’s something I need to cultivate within myself to find inner peace and happiness.

Striving towards a peaceful mind leads to enduring peace of mind and happiness. The first step towards achieving inner peace is to find out what values and goals I have in life and work towards fulfilling them while keeping a positive attitude. Also, engaging in activities that bring me joy and relaxation like art making, meditation, outdoor walks, great coffees, exercising and spending time with loved ones can help me maintain a peaceful mind.

Taking care of my physical and emotional health is also critical for my happiness and peace. If I ever struggle to provide support for myself I will reach out to people and professionals I know can and will hold the space I need.

By having a balance of all of these, I can experience true hum which is peace of mind and happiness, that also isn’t dependent on life circumstances.

How can you be at peace when the world is in utter chaos?

5 Ways to Find Your Inner Peace: The Secret to Find Peace of Mind

It can be challenging to find inner peace when the world around us seems to be in utter chaos. However, there are some practices from positive psychology that can help us navigate this difficult situation.

Firstly, we need to be mindful of the content we consume. Social media and news overload can make us feel powerless and overwhelmed, leading to secondary trauma.

Thus, we must be careful about what we read, watch, or listen to, striving to find a balance between being informed and protecting our mental health.

Mindfulness meditation is a powerful tool to promote inner calm and control. By being mindful and focusing on the present moment, we can clear our minds of worries and anxieties about the past and future.

This practice can help us cultivate a mindful attitude toward the world around us, allowing us to observe and accept the chaos without getting caught up in it.

Ultimately, finding peace in a world of chaos requires a combination of self-care, resilience, and compassionate understanding.

By taking the time to meditate and prioritize our mental wellness, we can foster a sense of calm within ourselves that can withstand even the most trying times.

In doing so, we can be agents of change toward a more peaceful world.

What happens when you feel you have no peace of mind?

When one feels that they have no peace of mind, it can be overwhelming. The feeling of being unresolved can leave one feeling anxious and uneasy.

Being overly busy with the roles, responsibilities and ”productive” aspects of life can push one to lose focus on what’s meaningful to us. It is key to find peace of mind as it can make one feel less stressed and help one find happiness in all aspects of their life.

It is possible to find peace, but it requires effort and dedication. Sometimes, finding peace may mean sacrificing something that makes someone else happy. This isn’t easy to stop doing but it is important to remember that finding peace is essential for the control of one’s life. When you have control of your life, you can focus on your inner self and find happiness.

You can learn to take control of your mind and get back to the peace you need to function and thrive.

Final Thoughts

The mind can become cluttered and chaotic when one doesn’t have peace of mind. There are so many things we can do to anchor ourselves into some inner peace, removing or decreasing chaos and external noise.

We need to use the tools, community and skills accessible to use to remove unhelpful narratives about having a busy mind, busy lives and schedules.

In the end, finding peace of mind can be one of the most important things one can do for themselves in their lifetime.
